Most verses that feel rushed have the same problem: too many words for the bars they get. You can check that before you hear a note.
A bar in 4/4 has four beats. At 90 BPM one beat lasts 60 ÷ 90 = 0.67 seconds, so:
At 140 BPM the same 16 bars last about 27 seconds. That is why trap and drill verses often use shorter phrases and leave gaps, while boom bap has room to tell a story.
Say a line out loud at the pace you want while tapping four beats. If you run out of beats, the line is too long. As a starting point, try 8 to 12 syllables a bar at a relaxed 90 BPM, and treat that as a guide for your own ear, not a rule.
Dust on the Needle is one of Rapper's demo tracks: boom bap, 90 BPM. Its first verse is written as eight lines, and it opens like this:
Each line is one thought, 10 to 12 syllables long, with the rhyme at the end where the snare will carry it. If each line takes one bar, those eight lines fill about 21 seconds. You can hear how the demo handles it on the Browse page.
Suppose a draft says "I have been stacking up all of these notebooks ever since the time I was in the eighth grade". It says the same thing as the demo's line, but it needs twice the syllables. Three cuts fix most lines like that:
Open the rap lyrics generator, ask for an eight-line verse, and read the draft out loud against four taps a line. Everything is editable before the track is made. A BPM typed into the description won't change the tempo, so when the words sit right, set BPM to 90 in Options, then generate it and listen.
About 43 seconds in 4/4. Sixteen bars are 64 beats, and each beat lasts about 0.67 seconds at 90 BPM.
No. One line per bar is a useful way to draft, but flows often run across bars or leave space. Use it to spot lines that are too long.
